Pardeep Narwal’s greatest performances in Pro Kabaddi

Since his breakthrough campaign with the Patna Pirates in Pro Kabaddi Season 3, raider Pardeep Narwal has been on an unrelenting run of smashing records, delivering jaw-dropping performances, and adding to an already stacked trophy cabinet.

Pardeep is the only player in Pro Kabaddi history to score 1000 raid points and leads the league in Super 10s, Super Raids as well as average raid points per game. The 23-year-old holds almost every raiding record in Pro Kabaddi and also has the two best raids in the league’s history. For his proficiency of the Dubki, the raider earned the moniker of the ‘Dubki King’ and for his unmatched knack of shattering records, Pardeep earned the moniker ‘Record-Breaker’.

Pardeep is responsible for some of the greatest raiding performances in Pro Kabaddi history, so below, we take a look at five of his best through the years:

36 points vs. Bengal Warriors in Season 7

With the team through to the playoffs, Bengal Warriors decided to rotate their starting seven and give opportunities to their reserves ahead of the playoffs. Unfortunately, they chose the wrong day to test their strength, as Pardeep punished the Warriors and matched his career-high of 34 raid points.

Like his previous 34-point performance, Pardeep scored two Super Raids against Bengal Warriors, and this too included an astonishing six-point raid that sent all but defender in the opposition half on the bench. Pardeep also scored a Super Tackle in the match, his first tackle point since Season 4.

34 points vs. Haryana Steelers in Season 5

After finishing second in the Zone B standings in Season 5, Pardeep and the Pirates had to take on Haryana Steelers in Eliminator 2 of the playoffs.

After starting the game with four empty raids, Pardeep went berserk. The raider scored at least a point in 23 of his next 28 raids while also scoring two Super raids, which included an outrageous eight-point effort - a Pro Kabaddi record to-date. Pardeep finished the match with 34 points, four more than Haryana Steelers managed as a team, handing them a 30-69 defeat.

27 points vs. Puneri Paltan in Season 6

On a day when Pardeep needed 17 to become the first player to reach 800 raid points in the Pro Kabaddi league, the raider exploded with 27 raid points in a thumping 53-36 victory for the Patna Pirates.

Pardeep was tackled just thrice in the match and put in only three empty raids, in what was one of the most efficient performances of his career. The ‘Dubki King’ also scored a Super Raid.

26 points vs. Tamil Thalaivas in Season 7

Reaching a milestone in style has become a trademark of the ‘Record-Breaker’ over the years. Needing three points to reach the 1000-point mark and a Super 10 to breach the 1000-raid-point barrier, Pardeep turned on the style, reaching both milestones and adding 16 more to finish with 26 raid points against nemesis Rahul Chaudhari and his Tamil Thalaivas in Match 83 of Season 7.

In just his fourth raid, Pardeep scored his third point of the night to reach 1000 points, and with four minutes left in the half, the Patna Pirates ace scored a two-point raid that took him to 1000 raid points in Pro Kabaddi. Pardeep tormented the Tamil Thalaivas the rest of the night to finish with 26 - one more than the Thalaivas managed on the night.

24 points vs. Telugu Titans in Season 3

That wasn’t the only time Rahul Chaudhari was the on the receiving end of a Pardeep Narwal masterclass.

In Season 3, Pardeep announced himself to the world with a 24-point performance against Chaudhari and his Telugu Titans side. In the absence of his raiding partner Rohit Kumar, Pardeep carried the bulk of the responsibility in offence and raided 25 times in the match. Despite his 24 points, it was Chaudhari and the Titans who had the last laugh as they ran out victors by a narrow scoreline of 42-41.

Pardeep, however, won his maiden Pro Kabaddi title later that season, before leading Patna Pirates to a three-peat with victory in Season 4 as well as Season 5.

Naveen and Pawan headline Deepak Hooda’s Dream Team

Jaipur Pink Panthers skipper Deepak Hooda has featured in all seven seasons of the Pro Kabaddi league and is the third-highest points scorer with 943.

Over the years, Hooda has shared the mat with some of the finest players in the history of the sport and on an Instagram live session, the all-rounder revealed his Pro Kabaddi Dream Team.

Hooda picked himself as the all-rounder in the side as well as the captain. Here’s the rest of the side:

Corners – Surender Nada and Ravinder Pahal

For the Left Corner spot, Hooda went with Indian kabaddi stalwart Surender Nada.

Nada played for U Mumba for the first three seasons of the Pro Kabaddi league and won the title in Season 2. He then joined Bengaluru Bulls for a year before joining Haryana Steelers in Season 5 and captaining the side to a playoff appearance in their debut campaign. The veteran won the Best Defender Award after finishing Season 5 as the league’s leading tackle point scorer. Nada’s average of 3.13 tackle points per game is the second-highest among players over 70 appearances in the Pro Kabaddi league.

For the Right Corner spot, Hooda picked former Puneri Paltan teammate Ravinder Pahal. ‘The Hawk’, as he is fondly known, is the second man to score 300 tackle points in the Pro Kabaddi league. Only Manjeet Chhillar (339) has scored more tackle points than Pahal (326) in the PKL.

Covers – Parvesh Bhainswal and Sunil Kumar

For the two Cover positions, Hooda went with Gujarat Fortunegiants duo Parvesh Bhainswal and Sunil Kumar.

Parvesh and Sunil have been the heartbeat of the Fortunegiants since Season 5 and have scored and assisted more tackle points than any other duo since their debut. Parvesh holds the record for most points by a Cover defender with 86, while Sunil has the second-most with 76.

Raiders – Naveen Kumar and Pawan Sehrawat

Reigning PKL MVP Naveen Kumar was one of the two raiders that Hooda picked in his Dream Team.

The Dabang Delhi K.C. youngster had an incredible debut campaign in Season 6 before embarking on a historic year in Season 7, where he became the third man to score 300 points in a season and smashed the record for most Super 10s in a row with an incredible 21 straight and counting. Naveen led Delhi to the final of PKL Season 7 where they were beaten by Bengal Warriors.

Pawan Sehrawat was the other raider that Hooda picked for his side.

The Bengaluru Bulls raider led his side to the title in Season 6 and was named the league MVP for his incredible campaign. Sehrawat followed that up with another brilliant season, scoring 360 points in Season 7, just nine short of Pardeep Narwal’s all-time record. The Hi-Flyer also set the new record for most points in a single game, with 39 against the Haryana Steelers. Sehrawat won the Best Raider award in Season 7, becoming just the second man to win the PKL title, the Best Raider Award as well as the MVP after Pardeep.

Best of ‘Baahubali’: Siddharth Desai’s greatest performances

Tall, strong, agile, and intimidating, raider Siddharth Desai has been a force to be reckoned with from his very first Pro Kabaddi appearance during Season 6, in the Maharashtra Derby against Puneri Paltan.

In his rookie year, Desai started just 20 matches but still managed to score 221 points for U Mumba, setting a new record for most points by a rookie in the Pro Kabaddi league. His bullish strength and a knack for powering his way through tackles earned him the nickname, the ‘Baahubali’, which translates to ‘the one with strong arms’.

Desai endured a rough start to his second campaign in the Pro Kabaddi league with Telugu Titans, but soon found his groove and finished with 220 points in Season 7.

In just two seasons, Desai has delivered a slew of stellar performances, and we take a look at some of his best:

23 points vs. Bengaluru Bulls in Season 7

In what was one of the best duels in Pro Kabaddi history, Bengaluru Bulls’ Pawan Sehrawat and Desai were toe-to-toe in a back-and-forth raiding battle to produce one of the most thrilling contests of Season 7.

With his team trailing by eight and just over three minutes left in the contest, Desai produced a six-point raid to help his side cut the deficit to a mere two. After Sehrawat made it a three-point game with a successful raid, Desai delivered yet again, scoring another Super Raid to level the scores at 36-36. Sehrawat’s two-point raid added a couple of more points to his team’s total, but Desai responded with two consecutive successful raids to bring parity to the scoreline.

However, another two-point raid from Sehrawat sealed the deal for the Bulls as their defence sacrificed a point to Desai in the final raid of the contest to secure victory by the narrowest of margins. Desai finished the match with 22 raid points and a tackle point, his best performance in the Pro Kabaddi league.

22 points vs Jaipur Pink Panthers in Season 7

Winless in five matches, Telugu Titans were in a rut and needed an inspired performance to turn their campaign around. So, Desai delivered one.

Against Jaipur Pink Panthers, Desai torched the defence and scored 22 points in a mammoth 51-31 victory for the Telugu Titans. The Baahubali started the game with nine straight successful raids, which included two Super Raids. Desai scored his third Super Raid of the night, a joint career-high, in the second half, and was tackled just twice by the Panthers’ defence. A superb showing from Super Sid.

19 points vs. Dabang Delhi K.C. in Season 6

In his debut campaign with U Mumba, Desai had the Midas’ Touch and it was on full display in his best performance of the campaign against Dabang Delhi K.C.

The raider bludgeoned the Delhi defence for 19 raid points in just 10 successful raid attempts in U Mumba’s 41-34 victory over the team from the capital. Desai outshone fellow rookie Naveen Kumar, who finished with 12 raid points, by recording nine multi-point raids on the night, which included three Super Raids. Desai recorded a strike rate of 118.75, a stellar performance for the superstar.

18 points vs. Haryana Steelers in Season 7

With just 50 raid points in his eight matches in Season 7, a mark he reached in just four matches in his debut campaign, Desai was in the hunt for a big performance to kickstart his and Telugu Titans’ campaign, and he did just that against Haryana Steelers.

Desai exploded for 18 raid points in 18 raid attempts against a hapless defence, to guide Telugu Titans to a 40-29 victory. The Baahubali was unplayable on the night, recording 14 successful raids and just three empty raids in his first 17 raids. Desai’s perfect day was spoilt by an unsuccessful Do-or-Die raid attempt in the penultimate minute of the contest. However, the raider had already ended the match with his incredible display.

17 points vs. Telugu Titans in Season 6

Before he joined them in Season 7, Desai delivered one of the best performances of his rookie year against Telugu Titans for U Mumba in Season 6.

The Baahubali massacred every defender in his way and scored 17 raid points in just 19 attempts, leading U Mumba to an easy 41-20 victory over the Titans. Desai picked up a point in at least 10 of his first 11 raids on the night. The raider gave away just a couple of tackle points, courtesy of a Super Raid, however, his Super Raid a minute prior negated the effect that his unsuccessful raid had on the scoreline.

The best of Rohit Kumar in the Pro Kabaddi League

Since making his debut in Season 3 of the Pro Kabaddi league with eventual champions Patna Pirates, Rohit Kumar has been among the finest raiders in the sport.

With 670 raid points to his name, Rohit is one of just eight raiders in the 600-raid point club and his tally of 711 total points ranks seventh-highest in the history of Pro Kabaddi.

Compared to the legendary Anup Kumar for his calm demeanour and ability to pick up bonus points at will, Rohit, like Anup did with U Mumba in Season 2, led Bengaluru Bulls to their maiden Pro Kabaddi title in Season 6, his second overall.

Through the years, Rohit has been a clutch performer for his teams and below, we take a look at five of his best efforts in the Pro Kabaddi league:

32 points vs U.P. Yoddha in Season 5

With the team in the playoffs, U.P. Yoddha opted to field a slightly weakened side against Bengaluru Bulls in their postponed fixture. However, the in-form Rohit showed no mercy and scored 32 points on the night to lead Bengaluru Bulls to a 64-24 victory over the Yoddha.

Rohit clocked 31 raid attempts and scored 30 raid points -- a Pro Kabaddi record at the time. The Bengaluru Bulls raider was tackled just thrice in the match and had 27 successful raids, giving him an astonishing raid success rate of 87.1. Rohit’s 32 points are still the third-highest individual score in Pro Kabaddi history, behind teammate Pawan Sehrawat’s 39-point night against Haryana Steelers and Pardeep Narwal’s 34-point performance against the Steelers in Season 5 and Bengal Warriors in Season 7.

17 points vs Tamil Thalaivas in Season 5

Just two games prior to his 32-point explosion, Rohit delivered a sensational performance against Tamil Thalaivas in the Southern Derby against Ajay Thakur and his Thalaivas side, guiding them to a 45-35 victory.

Rohit started his night with four straight successful raids but had just one in his next five. The raider, however, found success in eight of his next 11 raid attempts and helped his side seize the advantage in the Derby. Rohit continued to pile up the points and upstaged Thakur, who finished with 15 to help his side to a 10-point victory.

16 points vs Dabang Delhi K.C. in Season 3

Raiding alongside Pardeep Narwal meant that the opportunities to raid were equally distributed between the two raiders in Season 3. However, when an injury mid-game ruled out the Dubki King against Dabang Delhi K.C. for the rest of the night, Rohit picked up the mantle and led his side to a mammoth 33-point victory over the side from the capital.

The raider scored 15 raid points in just 19 attempts, just only two unsuccessful raids and three empty raids. Rohit started the match with just one successful raid in his first four attempts but then went on a run of nine straight raids with points, and that broke Dabang Delhi’s back. Rohit took over the responsibility of being the lead raider for the remainder of the season and led Patna Pirates to their maiden Pro Kabaddi title. Rohit was named the Most Valuable Player for his outstanding campaign.

16 points vs Patna Pirates in Season 6

While Pawan Sehrawat had established himself as Bengaluru Bulls’ lead raider in Season 6, team captain Rohit Kumar played the perfect supporting role, even stepping up and carrying the team to victory at times.

One such instance came against his former side Patna Pirates. In Match 119, midway through the first half, Patna was dominating the contest and had managed to keep Sehrawat at bay up until that point. Pardeep left Bengaluru Bulls’ defenders in a spin and with his team down to just him on the mat, Rohit went in to raid with the All-Out looming large. However, the captain picked up two points in four straight raids to not only keep the All-Out at bay but also negate the effect of the eventual All-Out on the scoreline. Bengaluru Bulls managed to seize the momentum later in the contest. However, Pardeep ensured that his team managed to squeeze out a tie. Rohit’s incredible grit saw him score 15 raid points on the night, his best performance in the past two campaign.

15 points vs Patna Pirates in Season 5

Rohit’s habit of haunting his old side wasn’t a one-off, as he did the same against the then-two-time reigning champions in Season 5.

Up against Pardeep and the Pirates, Rohit sizzled on the mat, scoring 14 raid points in 21 raid attempts while being tackled just thrice, upstaging Pardeep who managed 11 raid points in 26 attempts. Rohit was methodical and calculated in his approach, picking his spots to attack and not committing too hard against an in-form defence. However, with little or no support from his teammates, Bengaluru Bulls succumbed to a 36-32 defeat against the eventual winners of Pro Kabaddi Season 5. Rohit’s performance did earn its well-deserved plaudits though.

No place for Pawan Sehrawat in Manpreet Singh’s PKL Dream Team

Gujarat Fortunegiants coach Manpreet Singh is one of the finest in the Pro Kabaddi league.

A Pro Kabaddi title winner as captain of the Patna Pirates in Season 3, Manpreet was appointed coach of the Gujarat Fortunegiants in their debut campaign in Season 5, where he led them to the final, only to be beaten by the team he earlier skippered to the title.

Manpreet took the Fortunegiants to their second-straight final in Season 6 but Pawan Sehrawat’s incredible performance in the final denied his side the title. Despite spending his playing career as a raider, Manpreet’s teams are known for their defensive discipline and are one of the hardest teams to score points against. He proved his emphasis on defence by revealing his Pro Kabaddi Dream Team featuring players from today as well as from the past during an Instagram live chat on the Pro Kabaddi handle.

Here’s the side the Fortunegiants coach picked:

Corners – Surender Nada and Sandeep Narwal

For the Left Corner spot, Manpreet picked Surender Nada, one of the finest kabaddi players to have ever played the sport. Nada spent the first three seasons of the Pro Kabaddi league with U Mumba and went to three-straight finals, winning the title in Season 2. Nada won the Best Defender award in Season 5 and is 12th on the list of most tackle points in the Pro Kabaddi league with 222 in 71 matches.

On the opposite flank, the Fortunegiants coach picked former teammate and current U Mumba Right Corner Sandeep Narwal. The bruising all-rounder was part of Patna Pirates title-winning side in Season 3 and is one just four defenders with over 300 tackle points in the Pro Kabaddi league. Sandeep is one of only two all-rounders with over 200 raid points and 300 tackle points in the Pro Kabaddi league, alongside Manjeet Chhillar.

Covers – Parvesh Bhainswal and Sunil Kumar

This was a no-brainer for Manpreet. Parvesh Bhainswal and Sunil Kumar have been part of the Gujarat Fortunegiants since the inception of the franchise as two standout defenders in the past two Pro Kabaddi campaigns.

Bhainswal set the Pro Kabaddi league record for most points by a Cover Defender in Season 6 with 86, while Sunil, who became the youngest captain in Pro Kabaddi history in Season 6, finished fourth on the list of most tackle points in Season 6 with 76.

Raiders – Pardeep Narwal and Naveen Kumar

For the two raiding spots in his team, Manpreet went for Patna Pirates’ Pardeep Narwal and Dabang Delhi K.C.’s Naveen Kumar.

Pardeep is the greatest raider in the history of the Pro Kabaddi league and holds almost all of the league’s raiding records. The three-time Pro Kabaddi champion has won the league’s Most Valuable Player Award and the Best Raider Award twice and is the only raider in Pro Kabaddi history to score over 1000 raid points.

After a stellar rookie campaign in Season 6, Naveen Kumar took over the Pro Kabaddi league with his unmatched consistency that saw him score 21 consecutive Super 10s and counting. He led Dabang Delhi K.C. to the final, where they were beaten by Bengal Warriors. However, there was some solace for the youngster as he was named the league’s Most Valuable Player for his stellar campaign.

All-rounder – Rohit Gulia

In what was seemingly another tried and tested pick from Manpreet, the Fortunegiants coach chose Rohit Gulia as the team’s specialist all-rounder.

Gulia’s influence on the team has risen with each passing season since his debut in Season 5. The all-rounder had his best campaign in Season 7, where he finished with 142 points, the second-highest tally among all-rounders. Gulia also captained the side in the latter half of the campaign, proving how highly Manpreet values and rates the excellent all-rounder.

Maninder Singh looks back on Bengal Warriors’ Season 7 final triumph

In Match 115 of Pro Kabaddi Season 7, league-leaders Dabang Delhi K.C. took on Bengal Warriors in what was a duel between the two best teams of the league stage. The team from the capital were on a six-match unbeaten run and coming into this game off a 60-40 mauling of Puneri Paltan.

Dabang Delhi were the heavy favourites in the duel but led by skipper Maninder Singh, Bengal Warriors outclassed the table-toppers 42-33. However, the victory came at a price and a big one at that.

Maninder, who had breached the 200-point mark for the season in this match, suffered an injury that ruled him out of the remainder of the campaign. The Warriors, though, held the fort in the skipper’s absence and sneaked into the final with a narrow two-point victory over U Mumba in the semi-final, setting up a clash another against Dabang Delhi K.C. in the final.

Bengal Warriors' opportunity of a lifetime

“We all thought Delhi were going to win,” said Maninder in an Instagram live on the Pro Kabaddi handle. “The way they started the game, it was theirs to win.”

Dabang Delhi raced to a 6-0 lead in the final and soon inflicted the game’s first All-Out in just the sixth minute to take an 11-3 lead. At this point, it felt as if the question wasn’t ‘Will Delhi win?’, but rather ‘How many will Delhi win by?’

However, Maninder revealed how the team meeting the morning of the final played a role in Bengal Warriors weathering the storm and forcing a strong comeback.

“In the team meeting, we had a discussion and we basically said to ourselves that today, we have an opportunity. Who knows if we will get this opportunity in Pro Kabaddi ever again? So, we knew that this was our chance to etch our names in the history books. And there was no selfish motive behind it, but rather a team spirit that bound us together,” said Maninder.

Led by stand-in captain Mohammad Nabibakhsh, the Warriors embarked on 14-6 run in the remainder of the first half that saw them go into the break with the scores level at 17-17. With momentum on their side, the Warriors were seemingly the happier of the two teams at the break.

Bengal Warriors' complete team performance

In the absence of Maninder, the onus fell on Nabibakhsh, Sukesh Hegde and K. Prapanjan to negate the skipper’s loss but it was a wildcard -- raider Ravindra Ramesh Kumawat -- that proved to be the difference-maker on the night.

Despite being part of the Bengal Warriors’ roster since Pro Kabaddi Season 4, Kumawat has featured only 20 times for the side, and his appearance in the final was just his fourth of the campaign. Kumawat scored the Warriors’ first three points of the night and his performance in the second half was exactly the sort of impact that the team would have expected from the raider.

“Kumawat has been with us for a few years and is still a young player,” said Maninder. “He hadn’t played much all year, and the final was his first big chance of the year and he delivered.” The raider scored six raid points on the night in just eight raid attempts, while also giving away just one tackle point, playing the role of the impact raider to perfection.

Maninder also credited the team’s stellar defensive trio -- Baldev Singh, Rinku Narwal, Jeeva Kumar – as well as raider Sukesh Hegde for their leadership and play in the final. “They wanted me to pass on instructions from the sidelines, but we had some great and veteran players on the roster. They gave their blood, sweat and tears to the cause and really won it as a team,” said the skipper. “Baldev, Rinku, Jeeva, Sukesh (Hegde), were all outstanding on the day. They really guided us to victory in what was a great day and a great match.”

Hegde scored seven raid points, including the final point of the night that sealed the victory, while the defensive trio managed eight tackle points on the night, limiting the impact of Dabang Delhi K.C.’s stellar offence.

The magnificent team effort helped Bengal Warriors win their maiden Pro Kabaddi title and Maninder’s second after his victory with Jaipur Pink Panthers in Season 1, capping off a magnificent campaign for one of the sport’s best players.

Rahul Chaudhari’s best performances in the Pro Kabaddi League

The inception of the Pro Kabaddi league in 2014 brought a plethora of previously unearthed athletic sensations to the fore, and among them, the player that shone the brightest was the Uttar Pradesh-native Rahul Chaudhari.

A bonafide superstar since his debut in the league, Chaudhari made the kabaddi stage his own, by bringing his swagger and a confident demeanour. It was those qualities, along with his incomparable playing ability, that made him stand out from the rest of the pack and earned him monikers like the ‘Poster Boy of kabaddi’ and more recently, ‘Showman’.

With over 950 raids points through seven seasons of the Pro Kabaddi league for the Telugu Titans and Tamil Thalaivas, Chaudhari has often delivered awe-inspiring performances and below, we take a look at his best so far:

Mauling U Mumba

U Mumba’s team from Season 1 through 3 was quite easily the most stacked roster in Pro Kabaddi history. An offence led by Anup Kumar that also featured Shabeer Bappu and Rishank Devadiga and a heavyweight defence consisting of the Indian kabaddi team’s starting Corner defenders at the time, Surender Nada and Mohit Chhillar with Pro Kabaddi stalwarts Vishal Mane and Jeeva Kumar manning the Cover positions, it usually took a miracle to beat this side. So Chaudhari provided one.

The raider scored 23 raid points in just 22 raid attempts, guiding Telugu Titans to a thrilling 44-43 victory over the eventual runners-up. Chaudhari went on a rampaging run of 18 straight successful raids and was tackled only twice in the contest. That defeat was one of only three that U Mumba suffered in Season 1 and it took a performance for the ages from the Showman to make it happen.

Chaudhari carries Telugu Titans

After finishing third in Season 2, Telugu Titans found themselves in the dreaded 3/4th playoff match yet again in Season 4, this time against Puneri Paltan after they lost their semifinal clash against Jaipur Pink Panthers. While both teams would have been massively disappointed about failing to reach the final, finishing third would still have been a decent consolation for their efforts over the season. And Chaudhari played like he wanted just that.

The Telugu Titans superstar attempted 29 raids and notched up 18 raid points while giving away just two tackle points in the contest. Chaudhari scored all but three of his team’s raid points and the lack of support reflected in the final score, as Telugu Titans succumbed to a 35-40 defeat to finish fourth. Chaudhari, however, would be rewarded for his stellar performances that season, as he picked up his second Best Raider award, adding to the one he won in the inaugural Pro Kabaddi campaign.

Upstaging Pardeep

Chaudhari and Pardeep Narwal are the only two players in Pro Kabaddi history with over 1000 points. While Chaudhari was the trendsetter for scoring milestones, being the first to reach 200, 300, 400 till 800 points, Pardeep upstaged the Showman by becoming the first player to reach 900 and 1000 points. Pardeep is also the only raider with 1000 raid points while Chaudhari sits in the second spot in 955.

Pardeep has seemingly always had the better of Chaudhari, but in Match 40 of Season 6, Chaudhari rolled into the Patliputra Indoor Stadium, the home of the Patna Pirates, and rolled over Pardeep and his team with a brilliant performance.

In just 23 raid attempts, Chaudhari scored 18 raid points, while succumbing to just three tackle attempts and inspired his side to a 53-32 humbling of the home side. What made the performance and the victory sweeter was that the Telugu Titans defence managed to hold Pardeep to just four raid points, one of his worst performances of the season.

On a mission

A lot did not go right for Telugu Titans in Season 5, but when it did, it was usually down to Chaudhari’s excellence on the mat.

Against Jaipur Pink Panthers in Match 96, Chaudhari was determined to end his team’s three-game winless streak and did just that by scoring 17 raid points in 24 attempts on the night. Chaudhari was responsible for 71 percent of his team’s raid points on the night and was tackled just once, in a stellar display.

‘Dubki King’ Pardeep Narwal's three best raiding performances

Dubki King Pardeep Narwal has become a household name in the kabaddi world in a very short period of time. Arguably the most valuable player in the sport, the Patna Pirates raider is known for his tenacity and flexibility, which he has time and again used to absolute perfection.

Having made his Pro Kabaddi League debut with Bengaluru Bulls in Season 2, the kabaddi player from Haryana actually blossomed when he moved to Patna Pirates in the subsequent campaign, where he scored his first-ever Super 10 in his side’s narrow victory over Puneri Paltan, and there has been no looking back ever since.

The 23-year-old raider, who is a World Cup winner with the Indian kabaddi team, is quite the point scorer and has collected several accolades during his five years in Pro Kabaddi League, which also includes being adjudged the Most Valuable Player in two consecutive seasons - Season 4 and 5. Narwal, in fact, completed Season 5 with a whopping 369 raid points, a massive 150 points clear of the second-placed Rohit Kumar.

During the Pro Kabaddi League 2019 season, Narwal became the first player to reach 1,000 points in the competition despite enduring a rather slow start to the campaign.

Read | PKL players with the most assists since Season 5

Pardeep Narwal has won over 50 Super Raids during his PKL career, but we narrowed it down to three of his best raiding performances for this feature.

Pardeep Narwal’s highest raid points in one match (2017)

Pardeep Narwal completed his hat-trick of titles with Patna Pirates in Season 5, but the campaign is largely remembered for his record-breaking tenure. Having accumulated 369 points in just 26 matches, he set the record for most points in a single PKL season.

The highlight of the season came against Haryana Steelers in Eliminator 2 Playoffs.

Up against six defenders, the Dubki King faked his signature move to get past a chain of two defenders before avoiding the corners with sheer precision. With two players still to beat, he spun his way through the gap to the midline to finish a complete raid.

Read | PKL Season 7’s top performers in do-or-die raids

Cleaning the entire team in a single raid, Narwal earned his team eight valuable points, which, till date, remains a league record for most points in a single raid. That was, in fact, the match where he collected a whopping 34 raid points.

Pardeep Narwal’s 6-point raid against Bengal Warriors (2019)

Up against Bengal Warriors in Season 7, Narwhal pulled off yet another miraculous raid. After skipping past the ankle hold from the right corner, the raider was put down on the ground by as many as three defenders. To avoid any mishap, the left cover, as well as the left corner, joined the fray, but as Narwal saw a slight opening, he stretched his right leg in split second to gather six points from the raid.

A stunning 5-point raid against Bengal Warriors (2016)

In a do-or-die raid against Bengal Warriors in 2016, Narwal squared off against three defenders. Rushing towards the left corner, he managed to get a touch of one of the two defenders and escaped from the clutches of the other. As the right corner came in to tackle, he faked a dubki and reached the midline to earn five points for his team.

Fazel Atrachali vs Nitesh Kumar: Battle of the two corner tigers

Ask any prominent raider in the Pro Kabaddi League whom they dread the most, and Nitesh Kumar and Fazel Atrachali will surely feature among the list of top five names. Rightly so, both the defenders have made a name for themselves in the league, delivering consistent performances season after season.

Both Fazel and Nitesh's mere presence on the court brings a lot of stability and instils a sense of confidence within the defensive unit of the team. One operating from the left while other from the right corner, both have been instrumental in leading the defence of their respective sides.

The numbers of both the players are quite phenomenal with little separating the two feisty characters. While one has already become a household name, other has been making a significant mark in his nascent PKL career.

In this article, we look at the comparative analysis between these two corner defenders.

Both Fazel and Nitesh stand neck to neck in terms of the most successful defenders in the league. Interestingly, both have the same number of tackle points (222) from the last 3 editions of PKL. Pradeep Narwal has inarguably been the best raider in the history of the league with most number of raid points scored, rattling the opposition defences with ease. Looking at both these defender’s performances against the Dubki king, Fazel clearly holds the edge over his rival. Fazel has scored 15 tackle points from 17 tackles at a stellar strike rate of 88.23. On the contrary, Nitesh's performance against Pardeep has been subdued with a meagre return of 12 tackle points from 21 tackles with a strike rate of 57.14. Fazel clearly holds the upper hand over Nitesh in this regard.
