Bournemouth ends bad run with 1-0 win against Fulham

Sportsadda_16-APR_Article-2

AFC Bournemouth finally broke out of their winless streak on April 14, 2025, after they defeated Fulham F.C. 1-0. This marks their first Premier League victory after two months of draws and losses.

In just 53 seconds, Bournemouth secured the only goal of the game when Antoine Semenyo capitalised on Antonee Robinson’s defensive error. The shot went through Bernd Leno and into the goal, giving Bournemouth the winning edge.

A chance for a double arrived for Bournemouth when Alex Scott delivered a cutback to Evanilson, but instead of hitting the net, the ball struck the crossbar. Even though the attack failed, the team continued to try for another score.

Fulham made several attempts to level the game, but the efforts by Rodrigo Muniz, Ryan Sessegnon, and Joachim Andersen all missed the goal. The second half was still no good for Fulham despite getting better opportunities.

With 10 minutes left, Bernd Leno seemed to take down Evanilson. Bournemouth felt that a penalty must be imposed against the Fulham goalkeeper. However, referee Michael Oliver and the video assistant referee stood by their decision.

Since there were no penalties or extra time, the game concluded with Bournemouth’s victory. Because of this recent win, their Premier League points went up and levelled with Fulham at 48 points.

Mbappé's red card overshadows Real Madrid's narrow win

Sportsadda_15-APR_Article-2

Real Madrid edged out Alavés with a tight 1-0 win in La Liga on Sunday, April 13. The match saw Kylian Mbappé receive a red card for a reckless tackle in the first half.

Eduardo Camavinga scored the lone goal for Madrid in the 34th minute. The incident occurred in the 38th minute when Mbappé’s high challenge on Antonio Blanco was deemed dangerous.

The second half saw Vinícius Júnior fouled by Manu Sánchez, levelling the player count as Sánchez was also sent off. The game drew a tight fight for Madrid, who now trail Barcelona in the La Liga race.

After the match, Real Madrid’s assistant coach Davide Ancelotti spoke about Mbappé’s moves, saying the star isn’t a violent player, is aware of the mistake, and has already apologised.

This was the forward’s first red card since joining Madrid last summer, though he was sent off three times during his PSG tenure.

Liverpool takes 13-point lead ahead of EPL standings

Sportsadda_14-APR_Article-6

Liverpool is on a roll and is now 13 points ahead of Arsenal after winning the game against West Ham at Anfield, England. Arsenal, on the other hand, ended their latest match against Brentford at the Emirates Stadium in a draw. That puts Liverpool at 76 points and Arsenal at 63 points, as of writing.

Can Arsenal make a miraculous comeback?

EPL clubs have only six matches remaining in the season, leaving a maximum of 18 points up for grabs. For Arsenal to overtake Liverpool, they need to win every remaining game, including their crucial head-to-head clash on May 11. Given their current form and their focus on the UEFA Champions League, that scenario seems unlikely.

Mikel Arteta has his eyes set on the UEFA Champions League silverware, the trophy that Arsenal has not yet won in history. Meanwhile, Arne Slot is free of other obligations, allowing his team to focus entirely on the EPL 2024/25 title. These motivations directly affect their performances in the competitions, so Arsenal is unlikely to make a comeback.

Arne Slot to win the EPL title in his first season

What makes this season even more exciting is that it's Arne Slot’s first season with Liverpool. Jürgen Klopp, who managed the team for nearly a decade, passed the reins to Slot after the 2023/24 season. Now, Slot is steering the team toward Premier League glory, and fans are witnessing this new chapter unfold.

George and Acheampong led Chelsea's Conference League win

Sportsadda_14-APR_Article-1

Chelsea grabbed a strong 3-0 win against Legia Warsaw in the first leg of the UEFA Conference League quarterfinal on Thursday, April 10. This gave the Blues a solid edge in their league title bid, as they sit comfortably at first place with 18 points.

After a slow first half, the goals came quickly in the second. Head coach Enzo Maresca praised his side for their ‘professional’ display, highlighting the younger players. Two academy graduates—Tyrique George and Josh Acheampong—stood out on the night with skills that helped seal the results.

Tyrique George’s first senior goal

Tyrique George scored early in the 49th minute of the second half. The 19-year-old forward slotted the ball into the net after the keeper pushed off Reece James’ long shot. This is his first senior goal for Chelsea and the first of the match. The winger himself felt delighted after his score, especially since it was his first one.

Maresca fell ‘in love’ with Acheampong

Josh Acheampong also made his senior debut this season and left a strong impression on Maresca. The 18-year-old showed an all-rounder performance, from being a full-back to a stand-out central defender. Maresca was full of praise for Josh, saying he ‘fell in love’ with him. ‘For me potentially he can be a fantastic player for this club and in football in general’, he added.

Alessia Russo out of Lionesses squad after ankle injury

Sportsadda_10-APRIL_Article-3

Arsenal and England forward Alessia Russo has pulled out of the England women’s national football squad after sustaining an ankle injury. The knock came during England’s 5-0 win over Belgium at Ashton Gate in the UEFA Women’s Nations League on Friday, April 4.

Russo felt pain after a rough challenge late in the match when she was caught on the lower leg. Nikita Parris subbed her off in the 73rd minute. She has since returned to Arsenal for further assessment and treatment.

To fill her spot, England called on 19-year-old Brighton forward Michelle Agyemang to be part of the senior team. Agyemang, currently on loan at Brighton from Arsenal, has made a name for herself in England’s youth teams. She has scored in the Under-19 qualifier match against Austria and netted twice for the Under-23s against Germany.

Agyemang’s call-up marks her first time with the senior Lionesses, and fans are thrilled to see what she brings to the pitch.

England, as of this writing, sits in second place in their Women’s Nations League group with seven points, just two points behind Spain. The squad will also be without Chloe Kelly as she returned to Arsenal for foot treatment on Friday, April 4.

11 points in the lead: Can Liverpool win the 2024/25 EPL title?

Sportsadda_8-APRIL_Article-5

Liverpool FC is in the lead in the Premier League (EPL) 2024/25 season at 73 points, 11 points ahead of the only title contender, Arsenal, as of writing. There are still seven games to go before the competitive season ends on 25th May 2025.

Can Arne Slot maintain this lead to win the title, or will Arsenal overtake them? Here’s everything you need to know about the state of the EPL 2024/25 and why experts believe Liverpool is pretty much the guaranteed winner:

Big challenges ahead for Liverpool

Out of seven upcoming matches, only three teams pose a threat to Arne Slot’s squad. However, Liverpool is still the favourite against each of them. It’s worth considering that it’s possible to lose a game against each of them this season, given the club’s current form.

Those clubs are Chelsea, Arsenal, and Brighton. Arguably, only Chelsea and Arsenal pose real threats, but Liverpool lost to Fulham, who is only 1 point ahead of Brighton after last Sunday’s match at Craven Cottage.

The above teams are known for their strong offence, which is a problem because Liverpool has a weakened defence line right now. Liverpool will have to keep ball control for each head-to-head, but it’s easier said than done, especially near the end of the EPL.

Liverpool form update

Liverpool could suffer from conceding too many goals because they are missing four key players from the backline. That includes long-time club right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold, who has an ankle injury and is expected to return to practice at least on 27 April. Ace goalkeeper Alisson is also uncertain to return after failing his concussion test.

Centre-back Joe Gomez is also set to miss at least the next three matches in the EPL to recover from his hamstring surgery. This weakens Liverpool’s defence for a long time but he’ll be back before the season ends. Fortunately, they won’t be facing anyone in the 2024/25 top 10 until May 4, when Gomez could be back in action.

All things considered, the odds are in Arne Slot’s favour

With all things considered, everything else is looking up for Arne Slot’s squad. They can seal their victory as soon as they hit 84 points total because Arsenal can only reach 83 points maximum at this point. That means all they need to do is win 4 more times with room for 1 draw.

If Liverpool beats Arsenal then it’s game over for the Gunners. That will deny Mikel Arteta 3 points, pretty much securing the victory for Arne Slot. It’s as exciting as it comes, but anything can happen in the next few weeks so stay tuned for more news at Sportsadda.

United vs City: Manchester derby ends in goalless draw

Sportsadda_8-APRIL_Article-2

In a tense Manchester derby at Old Trafford on Sunday, April 6, Manchester United and Manchester City played out a 0-0 draw. Despite both teams showing moments of promise, neither could find the back of the net.

United struggled to create clear chances throughout the match. Midfielders Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes had some attempts, but City’s defence kept them at bay. On the other hand, City also tried to slot a goal with their forward Omar Marmoush almost scored from 25 metres, which pushed United keeper André Onana to save it.

Following the goalless draw, United head coach Ruben Amorim acknowledged the team’s struggles. ‘We have to spend more time near the final third to have more opportunities… I can look to the opponents and I understand there is a big gap’, he remarked.

Meanwhile, City manager Pep Guardiola called out the ‘lack of class’ from some United fans, who made demeaning chants about player Phil Foden’s mother, telling them to be ashamed.

The draw leaves City at 6th place, and also 21 points behind table leader Liverpool, while United barely hangs on to 13th place in the Premier League table. Both teams face serious struggles as City’s top-four hopes fade and United fights to climb the table.

Kevin De Bruyne officially set to exit Manchester City

Sportsadda_7-APRIL_Article-2

Kevin De Bruyne has been at the top of the Premier League since he signed with Manchester City in 2015. In the decade he has played in the English top flight, his success involved six Premier League titles, two FA Cups, five EFL Cups, and a Champions League trophy.

The Belgian midfielder has impressive stats with Man City across all competitions: 414 matches played, 106 goals, and 176 assists as of April 7, 2025. He exits the Prem at the end of the 2024-25 season, ending a stint as arguably the greatest-ever Premier League midfielder.

What is next for KDB?

After De Bruyne’s announcement, the bidding wars to sign KDB on a free transfer are starting. This could mean big-money Saudi Arabian clubs like Al-Nassr or Major League Soccer clubs like New York City FC could get the 33-year-old because of how much he can earn there.

Barcelona's title hopes dented by 1-1 draw with Real Betis

Sportsadda_7-APRIL_Article-5

Barcelona missed a golden chance to pull ahead in La Liga as they drew 1-1 with Real Betis at home on Saturday. The draw keeps Barca at the top of the table with 67 points, just four ahead of rivals Real Madrid, who lost 2-1 to Valencia last April 5.

Barcelona dominates but settles for a draw with Real Betis

Barcelona took the lead early when Gavi scored in the seventh minute, finishing a fine build-up with Ferran Torres. Real Betis fought back, equalising through Natan’s header just 10 minutes later.

Despite dominating possession, Barca failed to convert their chances. Goalkeeper Adrian San Miguel was key for Real Betis, making several crucial saves to deny Barca’s attacks.

With this draw, Real Betis climbed to sixth place with 48 points, while Madrid's defeat means the race for the title is tougher than ever. Coach Carlo Ancelotti noted that his side is under pressure but remains hopeful. 'It is much harder now to fight for the league, but we only have one idea and that is to fight until the end because we still have a chance after this game,’ Ancelotti said.

The fight for La Liga heats, with eight rounds left and a major Clasico clash set for May.

‘Not a classy move’: Mourinho in trouble after Cup loss

Sportsadda_4-APRIL_Article-3

José Mourinho is in hot water again after Fenerbahce’s tense 2-1 loss to Galatasaray in the Turkish Cup. After the match, he seemed to have pinched Galatasaray coach Okan Buruk’s nose. This caused a fight on the pitch and led to Mourinho getting a red card.

A video showed Mourinho walking up to Buruk after the game and grabbing his nose. Buruk fell to the ground holding his face. He then lay on his back as players and staff stepped in to calm things down. At the press talk, Buruk said it was 'not a classy move' but he didn’t want to make a big fuss. He also said that Mourinho scratched him.

The match itself was heated. Victor Osimhen scored twice in the first half. He got his first goal in the 10th minute. His second came in the 27th minute from a penalty after a handball by Filip Kostic. Fenerbahce’s Sebastian Szymanski scored just before halftime. A video assistant referee (VAR) first ruled it as offside.

This isn’t Mourinho’s first trouble in Turkey. In February, Galatasaray said he used racist words after a league game that ended in a draw. His team said it was untrue and took legal action.
