Chelsea secures WSL top spot after 1-0 win vs Leicester
Chelsea claimed the top of the Women’s Super League (WSL) table after a 1-0 win over Leicester City on Sunday, September 21, at Kingsmeadow. Star player Aggie Beever-Jones scored the only goal of the game in the seventh minute, which gave the Blues an early edge.
The young forward finished from a six-yard range, where she managed to slot the ball past Leicester goalkeeper Janina Leitzig. It was her third WSL goal in a row, showing her rise as a key name in Chelsea’s attacking side.
The Blues had the better of the first half, as they kept the ball in possession and slotted more chances. Meanwhile, the Foxes found their rhythm in the second half. They tried to push for a goal during stoppage time, but Chelsea’s Hannah Hampton hit them with a fine save.
It was a strong win for Chelsea as they took the top spot. During the game, they also gave a minute’s silence to pay tribute to former Chelsea manager, Matt Beard, who passed away on Saturday.
