Montse Tomé will step down as Spain Women’s head coach by September after the team’s Euro 2025 final defeat to England. The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) board confirmed they will not renew her contract, which ends on August 31, 2025.

At 43, Tomé made history in the field of women’s football. In 2023, she became the first woman ever to lead Spain’s national team. In her two years as the lead, she’s been able to guide La Roja to victory in the first Women’s Nations League in 2024 and the Euro 2025 final.

Replacing Tomé is the Under-23 coach Sonia Bermúdez. She’s set to take over the team from September onwards. Bermúdez is a former Spanish forward who won 63 caps between 2008 and 2017.

The RFEF thanked Tomé for her dedication to the team along with a special post on their official X (Twitter) account.
