It's been over 15 years since Virat Kohli made his debut for India in an ODI against Sri Lanka. His first taste of international cricket turned into more regular opportunities two years later and since then, he hasn’t looked back. As he completes his 16th year in international cricket, we take a look at the progress of his century ticker, charting each of his 80 international hundreds over the years.

2008 ?2010

Kohli made zero centuries across formats in international cricket in his debut year. He played five matches and recorded his highest score of 54. But the century never happened until 2009. After two half-centuries in the year, Kohli ended 2009 with his maiden century in international cricket ?a 107 against Sri Lanka in Kolkata. He followed that up with three tons in 2010, including one in January against Bangladesh in an ODI and two successive ones late in the year against Australia and New Zealand, again in ODIs.

2011 ?2013

In the World Cup year, Kohli made a 100* against Bangladesh at Dhaka and after the World Cup, recorded his maiden ton outside the sub-continent in Cardiff against England. He followed that up with another ton against the same opposition back home in Delhi and finished off with a 117 against West Indies in Vizag. Four tons, all in ODIs, were recorded in 2011.

2012 was perhaps the year that turned Kohli into the beast he is now. He recorded eight centuries in the year including his maiden Test ton at Adelaide against Australia. He made two more Test tons in the year ?both at home, against New Zealand and England respectively. In ODIs, he recorded his highest score, a mammoth 183 versus Pakistan in Dhaka. He also recorded three ODI tons against Sri Lanka in the same year.

Six centuries were recorded in 2013 including ODI tons in Zimbabwe and West Indies and a Test ton against South Africa in Johannesburg. He also made a Test century against Australia at Chennai.

2014 - 2016

Kohli made 19 centuries in the period between 2014 and 2016 and became recognized as the world’s premier batsman across formats. He began the year 2014 with an ODI ton against New Zealand at Napier. A Test ton at Wellington followed but the highlight of the year was his exceptional Test series in Australia where he made three tons ?115 and 141 at Adelaide and 169 at Melbourne.

He continued the trend in 2015 and made a fourth ton in the Australian series at Sydney. A World Cup century against Pakistan followed. A Test hundred at Galle against Sri Lanka and an ODI century against the Proteas at home completed a fabulous 2015 for him.

Centuries followed in 2016 too as he recorded seven of them across formats including a maiden double century against West Indies. Two more double tons followed in the year ?against New Zealand and England.

2017 - 2018

The bumper years in international cricket for Virat Kohli, 2017 and 2018 saw him record an exceptional 22 international hundreds including 10 in Test cricket alone. In 2017, a double ton against Bangladesh and back-to-back double centuries against Sri Lanka at home were also recorded. He made ODI tons against England and West Indies too in 2017 but Sri Lanka was his primary target. Two ODI tons, two Test hundreds and two Test double hundreds were recorded in 2017 alone against Sri Lanka.

In 2018, he made three ODI hundreds in a six-match series in South Africa post a valiant Test ton in the same tour at Centurion. Two Test tons were recorded in England as well before a hat-trick of ODI tons against the Windies followed at home. In Australia, he recorded a Test ton at Perth.

2019

Kohli started the year with a match-winning ODI hundred against the Aussies at Adelaide before getting two more at home against the same opposition.

In the ICC Cricket World Cup, Kohli made five successive half-centuries but failed to convert any of those to hundreds. However, he rocked back to form in the tour of West Indies with back-to-back centuries in the ODI series.

The skipper finished the year with a double-ton against South Africa and a century in the pink-ball Test against Bangladesh.

2021

With cricket slowly moving back to normalcy in 2021 with teams playing and traveling in bio-secure bubbles due to Covid-19, Kohli failed to score any hundred for India in 2021.

2022

Virat Kohli ended his drought of not scoring a hundred in international cricket for 1020 days as he smashed an unbeaten 122 runs off 61 balls against Afghanistan during an Asia Cup T20I encounter at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. His scintillating hundred powered India to a 101-run win in a Super 4 stage clash. He scored his second ton of the year against Bangladesh in December.

2023

Virat Kohli started the new year with his 45th ODI ton, his 73rd international hundred overall. Kohli smashed 113 runs off 87 balls against Sri Lanka at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati.

He followed up with another ton in the third match of the Sri Lanka ODI series at the Greenfield International Stadium. The knock took him only three centuries away from Sachin Tendulkar's record of most ODI centuries.

Kohli also ended a long wait for a Test ton after scoring 186 against Australia in the fourth Test of the Border-Gavaskar trophy in March. He followed it up with another Test hundred in July against West Indies in the second match of a two-match series against the Windies. He made 121 before being dismissed.

The Delhi-born cricketer later slammed his 77th hundred against arch-rivals Pakistan during a Super Four clash in Asia Cup 2023 at the R.Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. He scored an unbeaten 122 off just 94 balls, laced with nine fours and three sixes.

A month later, he was at it again as Kohli smashed his 78th hundred at the expense of Bangladesh in the 2023 ODI World Cup. His 97-ball 103 helped India register a comfortable seven-wicket win.

His second hundred of the 2023 World Cup and 79th in international cricket came against South Africa in match 37 of the tournament at Eden Gardens. He smashed an unbeaten 101 to help India set the Proteas a target of 327 to chase. In reply, South Africa only managed 83 as India won the game by 243 runs.

Meanwhile, Kohli's third ODI ton in World Cup 2023 and 80th overall in his career came against New Zealand in the first semi-final of the 50-over showpiece event. His hundred helped India set a target of 398 for New Zealand to chase.

Suresh Raina announced his return in the Indian T20 League on Saturday, April 10, with a magnificent half-century against Team Delhi, which brought much-needed stability to the Chennai side after losing early wickets.

The southpaw had donned the iconic yellow jersey for the first time since 2019 Indian T20 League, as he had to leave the Chennai bio-bubble just before the 2020 edition began in UAE due to personal reasons.

After a lot of uncertainty persisting for months, Team Chennai had made their intentions clear by retaining Raina ahead of the mini-auction in February and the player has lived up to that trust.

Raina came to the crease after Faf du Plessis was dismissed by Avesh Khan in just the second over. To make things worse, Raina saw Ruturaj Gaikwad getting dismissed in the first ball of the third over as Chennai were reduced to 7/2.

However, the Chinna Thala forged partnerships first with Moeen Ali and then with Ambati Rayudu to steady the ship and consequently brought up his fifty in 32 balls. Mainly targeting the spinners, Raina scored 37 of his runs from 20 balls versus spinners, as compared to his remaining 13 runs against pacers.

Though Raina’s innings came to end with an unfortunate end owing to a miscommunication with Ravindra Jadeja, he had successfully turned back time for millions of cricket fans who poured their heart out into Twitter.

Sergio Aguero will leave Premier League giants Manchester City at the end of the 2020-21 campaign, the club announced on Monday.

The Argentina striker, the Cityzens?record goalscorer with 257 goals in 384 appearances across all competitions, was told that the club won’t renew his contract after it expires in the summer.

Aguero joined City from La Liga side Atletico Madrid in 2011, for a fee of £38m, and went on to win four championships, one FA Cup and five League Cups.

The club icon had made an instant impact on his arrival, scoring twice and creating an assist in his thirty-minute cameo debut in a 4-0 home win over Swansea City. There onwards, it has been an unforgettable tale of a player who is the highest overseas goalscorer in the English top-flight league.

Aguero’s first taste of glory - and arguably the greatest of all time - came in the final game of the 2011/12 campaign against QPR. With the scores at 2-2, the former Atletico attacker struck in the 94th minute of stoppage time to give City their first silverware in 44 years and a first Premier League title.

In 2017, Sergio Aguero broke Eric Brook’s 78-year record of 177 goals for City when he netted his 178th goal in the 4-2 win over Napoli to become the club’s all-time record goalscorer in just 264 appearances.

In January 2020, Aguero added a new chapter to his legacy in the Premier League as he overtook Alan Shearer as the player with most Premier League hat-tricks, after registering his 12th away at Aston Villa.

The 33-year-old will depart the soon-to-be crowned league champions as the fourth-highest goalscorer in Premier League history but will be regarded as the striker with the best minutes-to-goal ratio, 108.3 minutes per goal which is significantly greater than that of Arsenal icon Thierry Henry’s ratio of 121.8 mins per goal.

While announcing his departure, Manchester City stated that the Argentine will be honoured with a statue at the Etihad alongside Vincent Kompany and David Silva.

The news has sent the sporting world into a frenzy, with a few of his current and former team-mates, and some Premier League legends taking to Twitter to express their heartfelt gratitude to the departing forward.

New Zealand won the rain-marred second T20I against Bangladesh at Napier, but the biggest talking point was how the visitors faced nine deliveries without knowing their target.

Opting to bat first, the Black Caps rode on Glenn Phillips?/strong> unbeaten 58-run knock to register a score of 173/5 in 17.5 overs before being forced off the field.

When it was Bangladesh’s turn to come out to bat, the visitors seemed to be under the impression that their target was revised to 148 in 16 overs.

However, that was not the case as after facing nine deliveries, play was halted for five minutes with match referee Jeff Crowe and fourth umpire Shaun Haig were involved in a discussion with Bangladesh coach Russell Domingo and manager Sabbir Khan in the match referee's room at the start of the second over.

Following conversations, the target was re-introduced at 170 and Bangladesh finally got a target to chase in the second T20I, or so they thought.

After 14.1 overs, the match officials revised the target again and gave the Tigers 171 runs to win the fixture. At this point, Bangladesh were 126/6 after Kiwi skipper Tim Southee dismissed Mohammad Mithun at the start of the 15th over.

At the end, the hosts secured a 28-run victory and sealed their ninth successive series win at home - across all formats. As for Bangladesh, their tour took a worse turn and many people - including New Zealander Jimmy Neesham - took to Twitter to express their thoughts on the ‘bizarre?DLS drama.

Indian batsman Suryakumar Yadav made a roaring entry into international cricket, smashing a quick-fire half-century on his T20I debut to lift in India in the 4th T20I against England at Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium.

The 30-year-old Mumbai batsman was drafted into the team as Ishan Kishan struggled with injury. SKY, as he is known amongst the faithful, started with a brilliant six of Jofra Archer's delivery and went on to wreck absolute carnage. He, in fact, got to his fifty in just 28 balls. His innings, however, came to a disappointing end in the 13th over. After hitting Sam Curran for a six in the first delivery, Suryakumar Yadav went for another big shot. This time though, he fell a little short of clearing the boundary, and as a result, Dawid Malan seemed to have gotten his fingers under the ball as he attempted a brilliant catch.

With the soft signal being out, the decision went to the third umpire. The ball appeared to have touched the ground, but with the on-field signal being out, the third umpire went with it as the TV evidence was inconclusive. The 30-year-old departed after scoring a brilliant 57 off just 31 balls, and here is how the fans are reacting to the dismissal.

All-rounder Washington Sundar missed out on his maiden Test century by just four runs as the Indian cricket team was dismissed on 365 on Day 3 of the ongoing fourth Test against England at Ahmedabad's Motera Stadium.

The 21-year-old came out to bat on Day 2 when India were reeling on 146/6. He went on to play a brilliant 113-run stand with Rishabh Pant, who scored 101, before playing another century partnership (106) for the eighth wicket with Axar Patel. India looked well on course for a bigger score, but the momentum changed to England's way when Axar Patel was run out by Jonny Bairstow and Joe Root. With two wickets still in hand and the century, a mere four runs away, there was hope.

Ishant Sharma walked in to bat, and Ben Stokes dismissed the lanky bowler with a peach of a delivery. The England all-rounder caught Sharma LBW right on the middle stump. Three deliveries later, Stokes dismissed Mohammed Siraj to end India's innings at 365 runs, and leave Sundar stranded at 96. This is the second time Sundar has missed out on his century, as he remained unbeaten on 85 in the first Test of the ongoing series in Chennai.

Needless to say, the all-rounder and his teammates would be disappointed with the way how the innings ended, but the pain was shared on social media too. This is how the fans are reacting to it;

West Indies captain Kieron Pollard became only the third player to hit six sixes in international cricket when he did so during his side's four-wicket win over Sri Lanka in first of three-match T20I series.

Kieron Pollard's six sixes came off Akila Dananjaya's deliveries in the sixth over of West Indies' successful chase at the Coolidge Cricket Ground in Antigua. Pollard's achievement has made him only the third player to hit six sixes in international cricket and second in T20I. Former India all-rounder, Yuvraj Singh did it against England off Stuart Broad's deliveries during the T20 World Cup in 2007 and in the same year, South Africa's Herschelle Gibbs achieved the feat against the Netherlands in a World Cup 2007 game.

As for Akila Dananjaya, it was a rather mixed outing as before being hit for six sixes, the 27-year-old had picked a hat-trick in the previous over, dismissing Evin Lewis, Chris Gayle and Nicholas Pooran. He ended with the figures of 4-0-62-3. Pollard, on the other hand, said that the thought of hitting six sixes only occurred to him after he hit the third six of the over.

"A couple of things went through my mind before the sixth ball - before the last ball, I thought should I go for the six or take the 30 runs in the over, he went around the wicket and bowled it onto my pads, I told myself 'Wait Polly, take a chance'.

"That's how I have played my cricket all along, especially against the spinners. Today was my day, unfortunate for him, but this was a good win for our team."

Twitter has been left amused with the massive turn of the events, and this is how the fans are reacting to it:

Indian spinner Axar Patel picked his best figures in Test cricket (6/38) in only his second match as India bundled England for a mere 112 runs inside the opening two sessions of the third Test at the Motera Stadium on Wednesday, February 24.

After having won the toss, England captain Joe Root had decided to bat first before Ishant Sharma, playing his 100th Test match for India, got the breakthrough in only the third over by dismissing Dom Sibley for a duck. Axar Patel followed suit by getting the better of Jonny Bairstow before Zak Crawley and Root played a 47-run stand to steady the ship. The partnership, however, was broken when Ravichandran Ashwin, who picked 3/26, caught the England captain off guard in an LBW.

England simply had no answers to India's spinning wizardry as they went from 4/80 to 112 all out inside 24 overs. This certainly isn't a first innings score England would fancy, but judging by the pace bowling attack they have in their ranks, things might take a turn for the good.

The opening two sessions, however, was all about Ashwin and a Patel, who picked his second Test five-fer in as many games. Root's men have a lot to play for from this point on but the fans on Twitter went head over heels with the way the Indian spinners skimmed through the English batting lineup. This is how they are reacting to it:

South Africa stalwart Faf du Plessis announced his retirement from Test cricket on Wednesday, February 17. The former Proteas captain will, however, continue to be available for national selection in limited-overs cricket with T20 being his priority now.

The 36-year-old thus ended a nine-year Test career that started in November 2012. Du Plessis had made his Test debut on November 22, 2012, against Australia in Adelaide.

The right-handed batsman amassed 4,163 runs in 69 Tests at an average of 40.02 with 21 fifties and 10 tons. He also captained South Africa in 36 Tests after taking over from his childhood best friend AB de Villiers in 2016. Under his captaincy, the Proteas recorded 18 wins, 15 losses and three draws.

"It has been an honour to play for my country in all the formats of the game, but the time has come for me to retire from Test cricket. If someone had told me 15 years ago, that I would play 69 Test matches for South Africa and captained the side, I wouldn't have believed them. I stand in a place of utmost gratitude for a Test career full of blessings bestowed on me," the 36-year-old wrote in a statement that he posted on his Instagram handle.

Du Plessis further stated that his focus now shifts to T20 cricket but ODIs will also remain a part of his plans.

"The next two years are the ICC T20 World Cup years. Because of this, my focus is shifting to this format and I want to play as much of it as possible around the world so I can be the best player I can possibly be. I strongly believe that I have a lot to offer to the Proteas in this format," he added.

"This does not mean that ODI cricket is longer in the plans. I'm just making T20 cricket the priority in the short term," he said.

"I will be in conversation with CSA over the next couple of months on what the future might look like for me over the next year to find a solution that works for both of us," he further said in his statement.

"For now, I would like to take this opportunity to thank each and every person who had an influence on my Test career. I would like to single out my wife and family in particular -- I would not have been able to do without their support during the unforgettable journey that Test cricket has taken me on.

"To my coaches, teammates and support staff over the years, I would also like to give a note of thanks of course, to Cricket South Africa for the opportunity to be able to represent and leady my country in the pinnacle of the game we all love. It has been an incredible journey, with many stories that I look forward to one day sharing," he concluded.

Meanwhile, several former cricketers, experts and fans congratulated du Plessis on his stellar Test career.

Kylian Mbappe scored a stunning hat-trick as Paris Saint-Germain thrashed FC Barcelona 4-1 in a Champions League round of 16 first-leg clash at the Camp Nou.

The 22-year-old France international underlined his status as the rising superstar of world football as he upstaged Lionel Messi and further showed his capabilities of being the heir to Messi-Cristiano Ronaldo's throne.

In the absence of PSG talisman Neymar and Angel Di Maria, the Les Rouge et Bleu showcased their talent as they have taken a commanding 4-1 lead into the last-16 second leg at Parc des Princes on 21 March (as per IST).

Ronald Koeman’s men actually took the lead from the penalty spot in the 27th minutes, with Messi slotting home after Frenkie de Jong had his heel clipped in the PSG area. The home team had a chance to make it 2-0 but Ousmane Dembele failed to convert a decent chance in the 29th minute.

However, from there on it was all PSG as Mbappe equalized three minutes later after an incredible pass from Marco Verratti. The Frenchman put his side ahead in the 65th minute as he got behind the Barca defence to net their second of the game.

Moise Kean bagged PSG's third of the night five minutes later to put Barcelona up against the ropes in the Champions League again. Mbappe rounded off a perfect counter-attack to add a fourth goal and complete his hat-trick in the 86th minute.

Meanwhile, Twitterati hailed Mbappe as they witnessed one of the competition's most devastating individual performances.

Meanwhile, Mohammed Salah and Sadio Mane's goals helped clinical Liverpool defeat an errant RB Leipzig 2-0 in the first leg of their Champions League round of 16 fixture.
