The JSCA International Stadium Complex, previously known as the Jharkhand States Cricket Association International Cricket Stadium, is a world-class sporting venue located in the city of Ranchi, Jharkhand in India.

The stadium staged its first international match in 2013, an One-Day International (ODI) between India and England. Since then, the venue has hosted five ODIs, two Tests and as many T20Is. It has also hosted seven Indian T20 League matches so far.

The JSCA International Stadium Complex has a seating capacity of around 40,000 and also comprises 76 corporate boxes. The venue has an indoor cricket centre consisting of three pitches.

JSCA International Stadium Complex is the home ground of the Jharkhand cricket team and has hosted several domestic T20 matches since its establishment in 2010. Here, we look at the ODI records at this venue.

Interestingly, the Indian cricket team has a mixed record at the JSCA International Stadium Complex in the ODI format, winning two and suffering two defeats. One match was abandoned.

JSCA International Stadium Complex ODI records

Highest total: The Australian cricket team holds the record for posting the highest ODI team total at JSCA International Stadium Complex in Ranchi. Put into bat, Australia rode on Usman Khawaja’s scintillating ton (104 runs off 113 balls) along with contributions from captain Aaron Finch (93) and Glenn Maxwell (47) to post 313/5 in their allotted 50 overs. In reply, India were bowled out for 281 in 48.2 overs. Pat Cummins and Jhye Richardson picked three wickets each to help Australia secure a 32-run victory. For India, captain Virat Kohli smashed 123 runs off just 95 balls.

Lowest total: England’s 155 against hosts India is the lowest ODI total at this venue. Electing to field first, India rode on an all-round bowling performance to bundle out England for 155 in 42.2 overs. India’s left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja claimed three wickets while Ishant Sharma and Ravichandran Ashwin scalped two wickets each. In response, Virat Kohli’s 77 off 79 balls and Gautam Gambhir’s 33 off 35 balls powered India to a seven-wicket win.

Highest individual score: Sri Lanka’s Angelo Mathews and Virat Kohli of India own the record for the highest individual ODI score at this ground. During the fifth ODI of Sri Lanka’s tour of India in 2014, Angelo Mathews slammed an unbeaten 116-ball 139 to help the visitors post a competitive total of 286/8 in 50 overs. However, India rode on Virat Kohli’s match-winning hundred (139 not out off 126 balls) to chase down the total in 48.4 overs and win the match by three wickets. Interestingly, the hosts whitewashed Sri Lanka 5-0 in the five-match ODI series.

Best bowling figures: Sri Lanka spinner Ajantha Mendis has the best bowling figures at JSCA International Stadium Complex in the ODI format. The right-arm off-spinner picked four wickets for 73 runs in his 9.4 overs against India in an ODI match in 2014. However, Ajantha Mendis?four-wicket haul went in vain as India won the match by three wickets.

Most runs: Former India captain Virat Kohli has scored the most runs at this venue in the 50-over  format. The right-handed batter has amassed 384 runs in five matches at a staggering average of 192 and an impressive strike rate of 109.40. He has hit two hundreds and one fifty at this ground in Ranchi.

Most wickets: India’s star spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has picked the most wickets at JSCA International Stadium Complex in ODI cricket. The off-spinner has scalped six wickets in three matches at this venue at an average of 25 and an economy of 5.17. India fast bowler Mohammed Shami is second on the list with five wickets in three games.

Highest partnership: Australia’s swashbuckling batters Aaron Finch and Usman Khawaja have the highest partnership at this ground in the ODI format. The duo recorded a scintillating 193-run stand for the opening wicket against India in 2019. Australia rode on their stunning partnership to register a 32-victory in the match.

Australia batsman Usman Khawaja has expressed that there is absolutely no reason why Steve Smith, ranked 2nd in the ICC Men's Test batsmen rankings, shouldn't be named the captain of the white-ball format once Tim Paine's time as the skipper is over.

Smith successfully led Australia for almost three years before being stripped off from his role in the wake of the ball-tampering scandal against South Africa in 2018. The batsman was also banned from any leadership roles for two years. While Smith captained team Rajasthan in the Indian T20 League 2020 after his ban expired in March last year, he is yet to be considered for the role on the international circuit.

"If Steve Smith wants to captain Australia, I think he should captain Australia," Queensland captain Khawaja told reporters in Brisbane on Friday.

"He's our number one batsman; he's done it before, he's paid for his mistakes, there's no reason why he shouldn't be in line for the captaincy if wants to do it."

Paine took over Australia's leadership role following the scandal in South Africa and guided his team to the Ashes victory over England in 2019. However, his performance as a captain came under the scanner during India's tour of Australia, where the host lost to the visitors 2-1 in the Test series when India had lost many of their starting players due to injury. Paine himself has said that Steve would love to take over once again and admitted that this is indeed a long process.

"There's no doubt he would like to do it, I think, but we'll just wait and see what happens in the next six to 12 months," he told SEN radio. "One of the things we're trying to do is develop more leaders in our team, and Steve Smith is certainly one of those."

As far as Steve Smith is concerned, he was adjudged with the Allan Border Medal last month, and he said that captaining Australia is "not on [his] radar" at the moment.

Cameron Bancroft and Joe Burns got the nod Thursday for Australia's Test squad to face Pakistan, with Usman Khawaja and Marcus Harris axed after flopping during the Ashes series against England.

Bowling allrounder Michael Neser was also included as a back-up to the formidable pace attack of Josh Hazelwood, Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc and James Pattinson.

Bancroft was only rushed into the Australia A team at the last minute this week when Nic Maddinson pulled out to deal with mental health issues.

But he made the most of his opportunity, top-scoring with 49 in their first innings total of 122 all out to put himself in the reckoning after failing to make an impact in the Ashes on his return to Test cricket after a ball-tampering ban.

He is one of three specialist openers, along with Burns and Warner, but is more likely to play down the order if selected for the two Tests starting in Brisbane next week, followed by a day-night clash in Adelaide.

Burns was unlucky to be overlooked for the Ashes having scored a century in the last Test he played against Sri Lanka in February.

National selector Trevor Hohns suggested he would open with Warner, pointing out that "he has Test hundreds on the board and has combined very well with David in the past".

Unlucky players

Harris and Khawaja miss out after failing to impress in England or in the Australia A match, which was seen as a "bat-off" for the Test slots up for grabs.

"As always there were players who were unlucky to miss the squad. Those players remain firmly in the national selection frame and will continue to be monitored closely," added Hohns.

Middle-order batsman Travis Head, who was dropped for the last Ashes Test, was given another chance after young prodigy Will Pucovski, widely tipped to be included, pulled out of contention earlier Thursday citing his "mental wellbeing".

Pucovski, who announced himself with a superb 243 for Victoria against Western Australia last season, has a history of mental health battles.

Following that double century, he took a long break and later told reporters: "It was one of those things where what it looked like from the outside wasn't quite matching up with what it was on the inside.

"I was more confused than at any other time in my life," he added.

He seemed to recover and was parachuted into the Australia squad in January for two Tests against Sri Lanka, but did not play and was released during the second Test as he continued to struggle.

Pucovski is the third Australian Test aspirant in recent weeks to take time away from cricket to tackle mental health issues, with Maddinson and Glenn Maxwell also both currently out of action.

Hohns said Neser was included due to "his ability move the ball both ways, giving the team another bowling option depending on the conditions".

"We are blessed to have four of the best fast bowlers in the world challenging each other for spots and most importantly playing as a group," he added.

Australia on Tuesday dropped struggling batsman Usman Khawaja for the fourth Ashes Test against England at Old Trafford, making way for Steve Smith's return.

Selectors named a 12-man squad for the Test beginning on Wednesday, with David Warner and Marcus Harris as openers but leaving out Khawaja, who has averaged just 20.33 in six innings in the series batting at number three.

Leading batsman Smith, who suffered concussion after being hit on the head by Jofra Archer in the second Test at Lord's, returns after sitting out last week's agonising loss at Headingley which levelled the five-match series 1-1 with two Tests to play.

Smith has scored 378 runs at an average of 126 in three innings in the series and was back on the field in last week's tour match against Derbyshire.

The 32-year-old Khawaja scored 72 opening the batting against Derbyshire, but it was not enough to convince selectors to keep him in the side.

Harris has been retained after making eight and 19 at Headingley in his first Ashes Test then scoring 64 against Derbyshire before he was run out in a mix-up with Khawaja.

Coach Justin Langer told reporters in Manchester that he was "very clear on the 12, not so sure on the 11", with the decision coming down to the bowling line-up.

Pace bowler James Pattinson has also been left out, leaving fast bowlers Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, Mitchell Starc and Peter Siddle to compete for three places.

Langer said losing at Headingley by one wicket after bowling out England for 67 in the first innings was a "really tough loss" for the team, but their preparations for the upcoming game had been solid.

"We felt like we got the Ashes stolen the other day," he said of England's successful chase of their record 359 target. "To England's great credit, that's what they did -- they won that Test match.

"Now we've got to work out what we're going to do -- we're going to use that as fire, we're not going to feel sorry for ourselves."

Australia squad: David Warner, Marcus Harris, Marnus Labuschagne, Steve Smith, Travis Head, Matt Wade, Tim Paine (capt), Pat Cummins, Peter Siddle, Mitchell Starc, Nathan Lyon, Josh Hazlewood.

Injury-hit Australia have called up Matthew Wade and Mitch Marsh to their World Cup squad as cover for Usman Khawaja and Marcus Stoinis.

Top-order batsman Khawaja suffered a left hamstring injury in Australia's shock 10-run defeat by South Africa at Old Trafford on Saturday.

Stoinis was also hampered by a side complaint, an issue which had already sidelined the all-rounder for two group stage matches.

With reigning champions Australia due to play England in the semi-finals at Edgbaston on Thursday, Wade and Marsh have been added to the squad.

Marsh links up with the group for a second time as cover for Stoinis, who missed Australia's wins over Pakistan and Sri Lanka before returning against Bangladesh.

Both Khawaja and Stoinis will undergo scans on their injuries but, in the meantime, Wade and Marsh will leave the Australia A group currently in Sussex, southern England.

Australia captain Aaron Finch admitted Khawaja was unlikely to recover in time for the rest of the tournament when he spoke after the South Africa defeat -- a result that cost his side first place in the 10-team group stage.

"Australia A arrived at Arundel for today's (Sunday's) four-day clash with Sussex short two players after wicketkeeper-batter Matthew Wade and all-rounder Mitch Marsh were called up as cover to Australia's World Cup squad," a Cricket Australia statement read.

"The injury setbacks to Usman Khawaja (hamstring) and Marcus Stoinis (side) suffered in Australia's dramatic loss to South Africa in Manchester has seen the selectors draft in Wade and Marsh.

"They left Brighton this morning for Birmingham, the destination of Australia's blockbuster semi-final show with tournament hosts England on Thursday.

"Both Khawaja and Stoinis are set to undergo scans today before their future in the World Cup is determined, with both players still officially a part of Australia's 15-man Cup squad at this stage.

"However, it appears Khawaja's hamstring injury looks likely to rule the left-hander out for the rest of Australia's campaign."

Australia head coach Justin Langer has confirmed batsman Usman Khawaja will miss the rest of the World Cup with a hamstring strain.

Top-order batsman Khawaja suffered the left hamstring injury in Australia's surprise 10-run defeat by South Africa at Old Trafford on Saturday.

Matthew Wade will replace Khawaja in the World Cup holders' 15-man squad, subject to confirmation from the International Cricket Council.

Khawaja's absence will be a blow for Australia heading into Thursday's semi-final clash with old rivals England at Edgbaston.

"It's such a pity for Khawaja, for someone who's been so integral to how we've been playing," Langer told Cricket Australia's website on Sunday.

"Like Shaun (Marsh, who broke his arm on Thursday) I feel that sad for him that he's going to miss the World Cup semi-final.

"Matthew Wade is coming up, he's in great form, he's had a great 12 or 18 months back home but he also just scored two hundreds (for Australia A) so he's in great nick."

Meanwhile, Marcus Stoinis was hampered by a side complaint against South Africa, an issue which had already sidelined the all-rounder for two group-stage matches.

Mitchell Marsh has been added to the squad as cover for Stoinis, who missed Australia's wins over Pakistan and Sri Lanka before returning against Bangladesh.

"Mitch Marsh is going to come on standby for Marcus Stoinis just to see how he comes up. If they have to come in they'll be ready to step up," Langer added.

Usman Khawaja and Alex Carey both hit fifties as they shared a century stand that saw reigning champions Australia recover from a top-order collapse in their World Cup match against New Zealand at Lord's on Saturday.

The left-handed pair came together with Australia having slumped to 92-5.

But when Carey fell for 71, chipping New Zealand captain Kane Williamson's off-spin to Martin Guptill at extra cover, Australia were 199-6 with seven overs left.

Wicketkeeper Carey faced 72 balls and hit 11 fours, the best arguably a superb straight drive off Trent Boult.

Australia, who beat New Zealand by seven wickets in the 2015 World Cup final, had already qualified for the last four out of the 10-team round-robin phase before captain Aaron Finch won Saturday's toss.

His decision to bat first on a used pitch -- the same track on which Australia beat England by 64 runs at Lord's on Tuesday -- was understandable given the sunny conditions but a worn surface provided some variable bounce and sharp turn.

The form of Australia's first-wicket pair has been a key factor in much of their success at this tournament, with Finch and David Warner having scored 657 runs together in eight matches, including Saturday's fixture, at an average of 82.12.

But it was a different story against the Black Caps, with both Finch (8) and Warner (16) dismissed cheaply.

Left-arm quick Boult opened the match with a maiden as did medium-pacer Colin de Grandhomme, who almost had Finch out for a duck only for Guptill to drop a tough chance at short extra-cover off a fierce drive.

Boult, however, made the breakthrough in the fifth over when Finch was plumb lbw to a ball that nipped back.

Two balls later Khawaja almost went for a duck, only for a diving Guptill to drop a catch at second slip.

New Zealand fast bowler Lockie Ferguson, however, struck first ball.

He appeared to surprise Warner, who came into this match as the tournament's leading run-scorer with 500 runs, courtesy of a sharply lifting delivery the left-hander could not evade as he tried to sway out of the way before wicket-keeper Tom Latham held a simple catch.

Ferguson also contributed to Steve Smith's downfall, the former captain falling for just five when he miscued a hook shot and Guptill, now at short fine leg, held a sensational diving catch as he atoned for his earlier misses in style.

First-change Ferguson had now taken two wickets for three runs in eight balls.

Warner and Smith were booed on and off the field following their recent returns after each served 12-month bans for their roles in a ball-tampering scandal during a Test in South Africa.

They were both back in the pavilion when Jimmy Neesham took two wickets for no runs in four balls to reduce Australia to 92-5.

Neesham had Marcus Stoinis (21) caught behind before the all-rounder held a brilliant diving left-handed catch off his own bowling after dangerman Glenn Maxwell (one) miscued a pull.

Australia cruised to victory by 86 runs against New Zealand at Lord's on Saturday, with batsman Usman Khawaja and pace spearhead Mitchell Starc starring for the defending champions.

Aaron Finch's team, already through to the last four from the 10-team round-robin stage, were wobbling at 92-5 after winning the toss on a hot day.

But Khawaja (88), who received fine support from man-of-the-match Alex Carey (71) steadied the ship before he became the first victim of a last-over hat-trick from left-arm paceman Trent Boult as Australia finished on 243-9.

It proved more than enough, as New Zealand slumped to 157 all out with 38 balls to spare.

Jason Behrendorff (2-31) removed both the New Zealand openers before Starc -- the tournament's leading bowler -- cleaned up with 5-26.

New Zealand captain Kane Williamson, who scored 40, could not repeat his heroics from earlier in the tournament as the Black Caps' chase failed to take off.

They still have not confirmed their place in the semi-finals with one match to go but if England lose to India in Birmingham on Sunday, New Zealand will be in the last four before they face the tournament hosts in their final group match.

"It was not the start we wanted but Uzzie (Khawaja) was out there occupying the crease," said Carey. "I went out and assessed conditions and tried to bat time and go as deep as possible.

"Credit to Usman as well, he batted a long time in that heat and Mitchell Starc closing it out with the ball."

- Finch, Warner fail -

Australia's first-wicket pair have been central to their success at the World Cup, with Finch and David Warner having scored 657 runs together in eight matches, including Saturday's fixture, at an average of 82.12.

But they both fell cheaply against New Zealand and Steve Smith fell for five after Martin Guptill held a sensational diving catch off the bowling of Lockie Ferguson.

Warner and Smith were booed on and off the field following their recent return to international cricket after they were both banned for 12 months for their roles in a ball-tampering scandal.

Jimmy Neesham then struck twice to reduce Australia to 92-5.

The collapse allowed Khawaja to bat in his usual style without fear of being criticised for slow scoring.

Fellow left-hander Carey added impetus, hitting 11 fours before he holed out off Williamson's occasional off-spin.

Khawaja was bowled in the final over by Boult to end a 129-ball innings featuring just five fours. Boult then bowled Starc and dismissed Behrendorff lbw with a yorker.

It was the first hat-trick by a New Zealander at a World Cup and the second of the tournament after India's Mohammed Shami achieved the feat against Afghanistan.

Boult finished with 4-51 at a sun-drenched Lord's after he had earlier removed Finch.

Behrendorff then carried on from where left off with a career-best 5-44 in Australia's 64-run win over England at Lord's on Tuesday.

He had the unlucky Henry Nicholls, selected in place of dropped opener Colin Munro, caught behind down the legside for eight and then had Guptill lbw for 20.

Williamson was caught behind trying to run Starc to third man to leave New Zealand 97-3 in the 26th over and Ross Taylor exited for 30.

Usman Khawaja did his World Cup prospects no harm as Australia overpowered Sri Lanka by five wickets in a warm-up match at Southampton on Monday.

Khawaja, who appears to be vying for a place at number three with Shaun Marsh, made 89 in a total of 241 for five.

The world champions rested opener David Warner (leg soreness) while former skipper Steve Smith, also returning to the international scene following a year-long ban for his part in a ball-tampering scandal, batted in the nets.

Australia appear to have a settled opening combination in captain Aaron Finch and Warner. But Warner's absence saw Khawaja open against Sri Lanka.

"I wasn't thinking about securing an opening berth, we’ve looked to be clinical and not take it lightly," said Khawaja.

"We've won three warm-ups here, and it was more about us continuing the winning ways in Dubai and India."

Australia's latest win followed previous warm-up successes against the West Indies and World Cup hosts England that built on an encouraging 3-2 series win in India.

"Behind the scenes we’ve put in a lot of hard work, you need that to be able to compete at this level,?said Khawaja.

"Everyone has put in a lot of effort. We had India over in our place for a series and while we lost, that was a big turning point for us."

He added: "They're one of the best sides and we gave them a run for their money. Then we went to India, lost the first two matches and went on to win the series. We always had the confidence we could do that.

"Winning is a habit, we say that a lot among the team. We want to keep that going, we might have lost that before, but we might have found that again heading into the World Cup.

"This time last year there was a lot of talk about our batting, everyone has their different plans ? it's just about winning games and we’re managing to do that," he explained.

Australia, who begin the defence of their title against outsiders Afghanistan in Bristol on Saturday, saw fast bowlers Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins get in the groove as they restricted Sri Lanka to a meagre 239 for eight.

For Sri Lanka, only Lahiru Thirimanne went past fifty. "We did not bat very well," said Sri Lanka's Kusal Mendis. "There was a chance to get to 300 out there on that wicket but we struggled in the middle overs and lost any momentum.

"It was a battle and it ruined the plan we had as a team. We did our best from there but we did not score enough runs and they were able to knock them off."

But Mendis forecast Sri Lanka would find their form in time for their opening match against New Zealand "We are confident we can turn this around," he said.

"Angelo Mathews and Lasith Malinga will step it up at the weekend and that will give everyone a lift with bat and ball," Mendis insisted.
